Nasdaq 100 2004
Agassi vs Calleri

Andre Agassi was beaten at the Nasdaq-100 Open for the first time in four years, losing 6-2, 7-6 to Argentina's Agustin Calleri in the fourth round.

Agassi has won the title in Miami six times, including the last three years

Agassi had won 19 consecutive matches in the tournament and was seeking his 800th victory. Instead, Calleri, 27, earned a win he ranked among the best of his career. The Argentine served poorly but dominated from the baseline, repeatedly skipping shots off the line. He hammered 47 winners, many on backhands into the corner that the usually spry Agassi didn't even try to chase.Agustin Calleri saved five second set points to defeat three-time defending champion Andre Agassi 6-2, 7-6(2), and advance to his third career ATP Masters Series quarterfinal.

Calleri's 1-handed backhand was on fire all match long, and if an instructional video on backhands is needed... watch Calleri in this match on super slow motion as he punished Agassi's shots right down the line with blistering backhand after backhand.

Neither Calleri nor Agassi had an explanation for the supreme form Calleri showed this day.

Agassi said he kept waiting for him to miss one and then maybe Calleri would play with a little less reckless abandon. It never happened!
