2005 Australian Open

Roger Federer  vs  Takao Suzuki

2nd Rnd

The world number one beat the Japanese qualifier 6-3 6-4 6-4, but it was far from smooth sailing for Federer, who was almost matched shot-for-shot.

A VERY entertaining match with the serve and volleying Takao Suzuki causing Federer a fair amount of trouble.   Every opponent that hopes to beat Roger should watch this match over and over again. Suzuki the heavy underdog plays his heart out, only to be shunted by the champion who was slightly stunned by the high level of play and choice of tactics.

It also produces some of the best ALL TIME shots by Federer.

    1. Reacting to a solid volley, Roger hits a running forehand with a flick of his wrist while running diagonally away from the court for a cross court winner that paints the line.

    2. Reacting to an excellent drop shot that is spinning away from him, Roger hits a curving winner  from way outside the doubles alley!
