2005 Montreal Masters

Final

RAFAEL NADAL v ANDRE AGASSI

6-3, 4-6, 6-2

Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal claimed the first hardcourt title of his career today, subduing US veteran Andre Agassi 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to win the Montreal Masters Series crown.

It was the 19-year-old top seed's ninth title of the season. His first eight titles this year came on clay, including the French Open and Masters Series triumphs in Rome and Monte Carlo.

Agassi tried to battle against the Spanish teenager by flattening out his shots and aiming for the corners.  When Agassi hit shots he thought were winners, the amazingly quick and never tired Nadal always retrieved the ball and other times Agassi's scorching shots sailed long.  Agassi knew he has to try to take the high kicking topspin shots from Nadal early and try to control the points, but Nadal proved he was more than a match for him as he proved he was an all-surface contender and a big threat to take the 2005 US OPEN title too!
