2005 WIMBLEDON

FINAL

ROGER FEDERER v ANDY RODDICK

6-2 7-6 6-4

Roddick came out determined to play like he did in 2004, bolstered by his improved fitness, in the hopes of finally conquering Federer on the grass of Wimbledon.  But, even Federer himself would later admit, Roddick ran up against Federer playing possibly the best tennis of his life.  Federer returned 140mph serves with ease and glided across the court to hit both cross-court and down the line winners that only he could make look so easy.

``I can't believe the way he played,'' Becker said. ``We are watching greatness unfold.''

``He's the greatest talent of all time,'' McEnroe said.

``He's the most physically gifted player I've played against,'' Roddick said. ``But with that, he has just become so solid mentally. ... If he keeps up this level, I don't know many people in history who would beat him.''

Federer is racing up the ranks of the tennis greats before our very eyes.   He will be the heavy favorite again at the US OPEN after this totally dominating performance that even left the Swiss player himself amazed.
