2006 PACIFIC LIFE OPEN
ANDRE AGASSI v TOMMY HAAS
Agassi came into the Pacific Life Open feeling rested and ready for the challenge. He was moving quickly and his strokes were steady.
If he could get past the opening rounds, which without a lot of match play was a big question, he was hoping to find his form to make a challenge
for the title hear and get good preparation for the next masters event in Miami.
Unfortunately for Agassi, he ran into an opponent that is one of the hottest on the ATP tour right now, in the resurgent Tommy Haas. Has was 18-2 for the year and has even given Federer a tough challenge. Agassi and Haas battled in a close first set. But Agassi began to dropshot Haas in the second set and while it
worked for a while, he also showed that he was unwilling to play long rallies and was possibly tired. Haas began to use his own drop shots very effectively and soon Andre was mentally out of the match. Haas moves on in Indian Wells, but has a tough road ahead with Blake and Roddick looming in the next rounds. Agassi will be looking ahead to the Nasqaq-100 Open and hoping he can put his game together at his favorite Masters tournament.
