2006 PACIFIC LIFE OPEN
ROGER FEDERER v IVAN LJUBICIC
Federer had been playing less than great tennis in the first few rounds of the Pac Life tourney.
But against the better players, Gasquet and now Ljubicic, Federer has a way of lifting his game just in time to play great tennis.
He replaced the occasional mishit with precise blasts from the baseline, and created his usual magic by toying with Ljubicic with dropshots
and then topspin lops out of the tall Croatians reach.
Federer suffocated Ljubicic from the outset to record his sixth straight win over Ljubicic.
The Swiss had little trouble in frustrating Ljubicic with his sublime placements of the ball.
"I consider myself a top-five player but that doesn't mean I'm close to Roger," world number six Ljubicic said.
"He's much better than me and anybody else except maybe Rafael Nadal, and he only gives him trouble because he's a lefty.
"But when he's on top of his game, no one can give him any trouble."
Watch out Nadal and Blake, because Roger is back at the top of his game!
