 ROGER FEDERER   v  JAMES BLAKE

7-6,6-0,6-7,6-4

Federer overcame a tough test by beating James Blake to advance to the semifinals of the US Open.

A battle between two of the hardest hitters in the game, both players went for their shots and threw caution to the wind.

Both players displayed some of their best shots, but they also hit a fair amount of errors

as they had to aim close to the lines and hit it as hard as possible to get it past their opponent.  Both the Swiss and the American

players are among the swiftest on the tour, so the matchup was a battle of shot making and defense.

Blake had the rowdy crowd behind him and Federer showed his championship mettle by fighting through when the crowd was not

rooting for him.  Blake knew he had played well in taking Federer to two tiebreak sets. He said:

"I take pride in the way I fought. It's a good feeling to know that I'm close to Roger. I guess he's human."
