2007 INDIAN WELLS MASTERS
ROGER FEDERER v GUILLERMO CANAS
7-5 , 6-2
Roger Federer's 41-match unbeaten run is over after he suffered a shock 7-5 6-2 second-round loss to Guillermo Canas at the Indian Wells Masters.
The world number one, who has won the tournament for three years in a row, was previously unbeaten since August.
He looked sluggish throughout but refused to blame the pressure of the unbeaten run for his performance.
Canas said afterwards: "It's great to beat the number one, I feel perfect," said the 29-year-old. "I dream about this, but I didn't expect."
Canas, just back on the Tour after a 15 month suspension for doping offenses, played superb defense. He returned shot after shot until Federer, who seemed off from the start, hit an errant shot.
Canas put additional pressure on the world number 1 player by stepping in to attack Federer's second serve. Federer had not lost since last year's match in Cincinnati against Andy Murray, but it shows
that he is human and will also re-inspire him for Miami and the clay court season.
