RAFAEL NADAL v ANDY RODDICK

6-4 , 6-3

The 20-year-old made 33 winners and only 12 unforced errors as he saw off Roddick in one hour 13 minutes.

He broke Roddick's serve three times in their match, moving ahead in game five and breaking twice more in the second set.

And the Spaniard made an impressive 87% of first serves.

"I am serving well," said Nadal. "Not as fast as him but I changed it up, to the side and down the middle. I played good mentally."

Roddick admitted: "He played super aggressive. I didn't serve well and combine that with me shooting myself in the foot and it was an uphill battle."
Nadal used his weapons effectively, while for Roddick, it just wasn't his day.

Roddick's first serve did not give him as many free points as he needed.

Although Roddick has shown vast improvement, his approach shots and volleys still were not at the level needed to beat the top players in the world.

His approach shots sat up too high allowing Nadal to whip forehands by him, and even if Roddick was able to get into the net for a volley, he usually

swatted at it and it either went long or into the net.  They hadn't met since 2004 in a Davis Cup match, but it probably won't be long until they meet again.
