2007  WIMBLEDON

FINAL

VENUS WILLIAMS    v    MARION BARTOLI

6-4, 6-1

Venus became the lowest ranked woman to ever win Wimbledon by beating surprise finalist Marion Bartoli in straight sets.

Venus Williams was 2 points from going home in the first round of the tournament and again almost lost in the 3rd round, but after those scares, began to find her form.

Bartoli modeled her game after the great champion Monica Seles, hitting with two hands on both sides.

But Bartoli had never faced Venus Williams before and never got used to the power of her shots.

It was a remarkable display of shotmaking, court coverage and consistency, match after match.

Not only did Williams whip perfectly placed strokes from all sorts of angles, she repeatedly tracked down opponents’ apparent winners and got them back.Against Bartoli,

she compiled a whopping 27-9 edge in winners and won 13 of the 18 points that lasted at least 10 strokes.

After sister Serena stormed the Australian Open after a long layoff, it wasn't a total surprise that Venus did the same here at Wimbledon.
The poise, determination, and power of the Williams sisters can really never be questioned.  Even when they are not match fit, if they want to win, they will fight for as long

as it takes to win.
