2007  WIMBLEDON

6-2, 6-4

Venus Williams continued her march to the championship at Wimbledon by crushing the rising star from Serbia, Ana Ivanovic.

Venus rolled through the first set as nerves seemed to take hold of Ivanovic, much like they did to her in the finals of the French Open.

But, Ivanovic regained her composure and fought hard to break through in the second set.

Venus' serve was broken by Ana in the second set and the crowd roared with approval as they hoped the match might even out and force a deciding 3rd set.

Ivanovic saved three match points on her own serve but Williams made no mistake in the following game, sealing victory when Ivanovic sent a backhand wide.

"I'm a little bit disappointed but at the end of the day I lost to a great champion," said Ivanovic.

"She has a very powerful serve and I'm sure a very high percentage of first serves, that was the big difference.

"She's very aggressive, stays low and hits the ball quite flat. In the last few matches she's played better and better so she has a very good chance (in the final)."
