2007 AUSTRALIAN OPEN
ROGER FEDERER v NOVAK DJOKOVIC
6-2, 7-5, 6-3
Top seed Roger Federer marched into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with another superlative display Sunday,
whipping rising Serbian youngster Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
The Swiss star controlled the points and had the 15th-ranked Djokovic screaming out in exasperation as he produced some sublime tennis
to set up a quarter-final against Spain's seventh seed Tommy Robredo.
The win extended Federer's unbeaten streak to 33 matches as he closes in on his personal record unconquered run of 35 matches set in 2005.
Federer also ended Djokovic's unbeaten eight-match start to the season initiated by his win in the Adelaide International earlier this month
Federer seemed intent on crushing Djokovic since he thinks the young Serb had been too overconfident heading into this match.
Federer also thinks that Djokovic sometimes bends the rules by taking
injury timeouts when he is not hurt. So, Federer added a little extra to his shots to let Djokovic know that he intends to remain number 1 for quite a while.
