2007 AUSTRALIAN OPEN
ROGER FEDERER v FERNANDO GONZALEZ
7-6 6-4 6-4
Roger Federer won his third Australian Open and 10th Grand Slam title with his win over Fernando Gonzalez.
Gonzalez had his chances, missing two set points on his own serve in game 10.
But Federer hit back to dominate the tie-break and one break was enough in each of the second and third sets.
Federer became the first since Bjorn Borg to win a Grand Slam Tournament without losing a single set.
Gonzalez was not quite at the level that he showed in previous rounds, but he still played solid tennis.
Federer remained totally calm and controlled volleys to the open court when Gonzalez went for passing shots.
Federer raised his game, serving especially well in the final 2 sets. Gonzalez played good defense and used the squash shot
to keep himself in points, but Federer wore him down and hit amazing angles to win points. Eventually, Gonzalez looked
resigned to be the runner up when even his best shots were returned by the Swiss champ.
