2008 HAMBURG MASTERS
RAFAEL NADAL v ROGER FEDERER
7-5, 6-7, 6-3
Nadal won the Hamburg Masters and got revenge for last year when Federer beat him in the 2007 final and broke Nadal's 81 match winning streak on clay.
Federer looked poised to win again this year as he was 5-1 up in the first set and 5-2 in the second and both times Nadal - who called it the "strangest" match between them
rallied back to pull even. Nadal was suffering from a muscle pull in his leg and looked like he might have to retire from the match in the first set.
But the ever-determined Spaniard received treatment and played on... and played well!
Federer is playing much better on clay this year and had added variety to his game with increased use of flat backhands, slice, and crafty dropshots that should make
him a real threat at Roland Garros. But Nadal is still the favorite as he showed in Hamburg, his speed and athleticism combined with his pounding shots and fierce attitude
make him the BEST on clay.
