2008  US OPEN

    6-2, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4

Andy Murray, known more for his counter-punching style and varied shot selection, took it to world No. 1 Rafael Nadal on Sunday,

striking jaw-dropping winners from both wings to win their semifinal matchup and advance to a finals showdown with Roger Federer.

The match was played over 2 days as rains from Hurricane Hanna stopped play on Saturday.

With Murray slapping flat, aggressive groundstrokes at will, Nadal uncharacteristically began approaching the net - far from his most comfortable position on the court.

Nadal's long season, which includes titles at the French & Wimbledon as well as an Olympic Gold medal, seemed to have taken its toll as he was not moving with his usual

quickness.  But Murray played brilliant tactical tennis, combining hard hitting with slices that seemed to befuddle the #1 player Nadal.
