    ROGER FEDERER    v    JANKO TIPSAREVIC

6-7  7-6  5-7 6-1 10-8

Federer came back from being down 2 sets to 1 to survive an early round scare that lasted four and a half hours.

Tipsarevic came out with a definite strategy to hit everything to Federer's backhand and the gameplan worked very well.

Janko is a strange character with his clear glasses, tattoos, and body piercings, but his personality is also strong enough to allow him to believe he can win against

possibly the best player of all time.  Most of Federer's opponents seem to concede the match before the first serve is struck.

Eventually, Tipsarevic started going to the daunting forehand wing of Federer, but Federer made a lot of errors because he had no rhythm after not using that shot for a while.

But Federer continued to work and pressure his unheralded but fearless opponent, but at each crucial break opportunity, the Serbian Tipsarevic came up with a huge

serve or big shot to fend of the challenge.

It wasn't until late in the fifth set, that Federer made his final charge and was able to break his opponent, with longtime girlfrien Mirka Vavrinec cheering him on.

Either Tipsarevic showed some holes in the champion Federer's armor, or Federer just had an off day and will regroup to demolish any other challengers in his way.

The hard hititng Tomas Berdych will be his next opponent to see if Berdych can pass the ultimate test.
